A loss to Belgian, SAR and PB

Hopefully Kim won't mind my posting here, as she's already posted briefly on Belg-L. Just hours after Kim proudly posted about her Braendon's most recent certifications in SAR, he met with instant death in a tragic accident. I have no further details. Please keep our Kim in your thoughts and prayers. Braendon had so much promise. Kim is devastated. Any soothing, supportive energies that can be sent her way would be great. (For those few of you who might not recognize Braendon's name, he is one of Brenner's offspring, of Big Mountain Belgians, well-known SAR dog, based in Montana. We've been blessed to watch this spirit grow from birth through now, through stories and pictures here and on Belg-L.)

Storm & Taqa Animals aren't my whole life; they make my life whole.

The details are on BelgL, & reading it is the hardest thing.
I'm just bawling, knowing the accident could happen
to any of us with young frisky Belgians,
full of the full moon, full of steam & life.
Godspeed, Baby Frypan; we all cheered you on & marvelled at you & loved you so!
I'm sorry Kim. I hope you know we feel you.

When I read the details on Belg L I bawled like a baby and am still 'sniffling.'

One more reminder just how quick an 'accident' can happen. A good lesson, again, for me, to ALWAYS be vigilant with my fur kids.

Right after I moved into this house, Shaina went over the 4' fence and the 'fear' I felt was so intense until I got her aback in the yard and into the house. I immeditely called American Fence to get my fence raised to 6 feet.

I am so sorry for Kim! It is devasting to lose a fur kid that is up in years, but even more so to lose one like this.

Kim, prayers going out for you that you can work through your grief.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Re: A loss to Belgian, SAR and PB new [re: Mom2Shania]

The pics I posted of Celeste doing 3ft, are out of date now.
I had some wire up in the back, that was almost 4 ft for our jumping chute.
And I saw her going over that this week.
At this stage she only knows going clean,
but I suppose it won't take her long to master grappling the 4ft chainlink outer gate.
And now swapping & putting up the 6ft gate is on my mind-
-how do do this before the ground freezes, & snow arrives to give her more of a boost.

When I lived in CA, there was a 3yro G,
owned by a wonderful couple,
who showed him to his championship.
We had all followed him, rooted for him,
& loved him as he was a doll.
His family lived in a quiet small town in a neighborhood where nobody drove fast & there were near no cars.
One day, this boy ran out the front door & was killed instantly.
Well, that was so sad, let me say, ripples of sorrow just wiped us all out in shock. Like now.

After that, I designed special half gate with a heavy spring on
& automatic latch for the front of our CA house.
It had woodcrafty charm & worked so well for us, as we had young roomies
& lots of friends coming & going & two frisky dogs who loved to get out..

To this day, I have an x-pen opened up on the top of my front porch,
tied on each side of the steps in his memory.
It stays there.
It is never too much work to unhook it to go down the steps, as I have some traffic
that goes at town speed in front of my house, esp at school hours.

I don't know exactly what all our reponse will be to the problem of young prey drivin' BSD in the fields
where we run,
but we will work on some better protective strategies now.

Fataah:

It was expensive but not as expensive as a new fence <vbg> they came in, and actually had extension poles that went into the existing poles, and then strung the new chain link on top, and 'wired' it to the old chain link then put the 'capping' back on.

Unless you walk right up to the fence it is very hard to see that there is a 2' extension added and looks like a 6' chain link fence.

I never have the 'right' words to say when someone loses a fur baby, but when something like this happens I am stunned. I am 'hurting' so bad right now, right along with Kim on this one. If it were me I would be devastated!

Again, prayers going out to Kim that she can somehow get through this.

Re: A loss to Belgian, SAR and PB new [re: Fataah]

I cried too reading about Kim's baby racing on to get to the Rainbow Bridge. My condolences to her, the blink of an eye is all the time fate needs.
Last night I let Tux come out front with me in the dark to take the trash to the curb. Nice neighborhood but I still feel better having him out there with me. I noticed he was inching towards the street his attention hard focused on...what??? Perhaps a cat? I clapped my hands in his face and shooed him back with a growl.
I truly truly hope Kim does not beat herself up about this though I suspect she, as we all would, will. Life is just not going to be 100% ironclad safe and woulda coulda shoulda second guessing is just twisting the knife.
Her baby boy was/is beloved, it is a blessing that he did not suffer.

I agree. Reading about her loss of Braendon was heartbreaking. Certainly just about the worst news to wake up to in the morning. But one of my first thoughts was “at least he didn’t suffer”. My biggest fear, for my canine or human loved ones, is that they’ll suffer at the end. I’d much rather death be quick and painless for all of us. And I guess, as if it’s really any consolation, we can console ourselves with the thought that Braendon was probably having a ball his last few seconds with us, and his trip to the Rainbow Bridge was a quick, painless instant.
